The Five Love Languages

Gary Chapman came up with the concept of the five love languages and has written a book on the subject.

The five love languages are: Words of affirmation, Quality time, Receiving gifts, Acts of service, and Physical touch.

Alot of people think these love languages only relate to certain areas of your life. I have been guilty of thinking that myself. But after thinking about it, I have realized that your love language effects more than just your relationships with other people. It effects all your relationships, including your relationship with God.

If you consider all the things that God wants you to do to show your love toward Him, you realize alot of them are directly related to your love language. For example, He wants you to give tithe to Him (the church). I believe that your monthly tithe should be more than just another requirement that God has asked you to do. It should be your expression of love to God.

I personally believe that God has all five love languages. We can show our love, and delight in Him by using the love languages toward Him. The one love language we can't show toward God while on earth is physical touch. We may be able to express our love to Him in that way when we get to heaven but I don't really know.

The example above of the tithing, would be the receiving gifts language. If you think about it, all the love languages can be used to give God glory.

Here is a list of ways we can use all the love languages to glorify God.

Words of Affirmation:
We can testify in church, and witness to unbelievers and other believers. Talking about who God is, and what He has done for you, are ways of using words of affirmation to show love to God. Also praying, thanking God, and praising God are things that make God feel loved.

Quality Time:
We always hear how important praying is in our relationship with God. Well, it's true. Spending time with God talking to Him, and telling Him all our worries and problems is a delight to God.

Receiving Gifts:
Tithing is a good example of giving gifts to God. He takes pleasure in the giving of our money to His people in the church, and other charities. But we shouldn't stop with just our money, God also wants us to give Him all the other areas of our lives. Possessions are a good thing to give God, but the most important gift we can give God to show how much we love Him is our will.

Acts of Service:
God delights in a person with a servant's spirit. He loves it when we spend time helping other people and doing things for people. This is something we can do to show our love to both God and other people at the same time.

I don't know about you but I want God to feel loved by me. I do love Him and I think all these love languages show how God created us in His image. Our love languages are just mirroring who God is, and how He created us like Him.
